A few Christmases ago my sister asked me to make an alphabet for my beloved little nephew who was at that time learning to read. Instead of making a conventional two-dimensional alphabet using pictures to illustrate the words I decided to make it three-dimensional and include real objects.

Having long since been a collector of dolls house accessories, scale models and replica miniatures, I took it upon myself to find the most beautiful possible selection of items to represent the A to Z. It took days of searching in toy shops, souvenir shops and dolls house emporiums and hours of trawling through the internet to find all the right pieces.

The end result however was an instant success with both my nephew and his mother. And then with his granny, and then with all his granny's friends...
