About

Dried Flower Fashion, Wedding Styling and Interior Decoration

Is there any occasion when flowers are not a fantastic gift? Naturally as a florist, I am biased and think not. But I’m even more biased towards dried flowers.

In a way, I think of dried flowers as super-flowers when it comes to gift-giving or beautifying your home because, unlike their fresh friends, they are long-lasting.

This is what lead me to start Mary Elizabeth Flowers as a business, making wreaths and flower crowns from real dried flowers – all individually handmade in my modest workshop in Warwickshire.

But to go back a bit closer to the beginning of my story, it was when I first used dried flowers for a project during my floristry training that I fell a bit in love. I was swept off my feet by their natural shabbiness and gorgeously muted colours. They have that dishevelled-cool personality that some lucky people can pull off.

From there, I got side-tracked into experimenting with ways I could use dried flowers and techniques for drying my own flowers.

Since its inception, my crush has developed into the kind of long-term relationship in which trust and respect are heavy players. The more I learn, the more I find there is to love and the more products I have in the pipeline to share with you lovely people.

Sustainable approach

One of the things I really enjoy, and obsess over a bit, is finding, testing and selecting what I think are the best materials to make and package my products. My criteria checklist includes aesthetic qualities (obviously) - colours, textures and forms – but also longevity, authenticity and environmental responsibility.

My wreaths and flower crowns are made without plastic and my postal packaging materials have been selected specifically for being recyclable or compostable as well as their fitness for purpose.
