From hand painting greeting cards at her kitchen table to building a fully-functioning print studio next to her home in rural Sussex, Nessie Maclay turned humble beginnings into a work of art.

It all began in 2002 when Nessie’s dad requested some hand-painted greeting cards for Christmas. Nessie accepted, and as soon as she put paintbrush to paper, she was hooked. Her dad’s initial order of 400 quickly grew—thanks to friends and family—and Nessie sold almost 10,000 cards by the end of the holiday season.

And that’s when 'This Is Nessie' was born.

As popularity for Nessie’s hand-finished cards grew, the venture naturally progressed to personalised stationery and then to bespoke illustrated prints.

Now, customers can choose from a range of unique cards, custom printed homeware products and quirky framed illustrations.

All deliveries go out by overland post to the United Kingdom and by the most effective method to all other territories (this rules out pigeons, but does mean we can make use of anything else).

We aim to get orders despatched on the same day they are received, although at peak times of year this can slip by 48-72 hours.

We appreciate that you would like your goods quickly, however if you request a proof, the speed of despatch depends on your prompt reply to our proof email.

Please make sure you read all communications from us on this subject very carefully to ensure your order progresses as smoothly as possible.

Outside of peak times, we guarantee that if the items are in stock then your order will be dispatched within 48 hours from acceptance.

Please note that if you have chosen STANDARD delivery we cannot guarantee that our delivery time estimates will be accurate. While we will despatch on or before the advertised despatch date, we cannot predict or control this, nor can we be held responsible for it. You do use this service at your own risk.

If you wish to guarantee the arrival of your item in time for a SPECIFIC DATE or event, within the UK, we advise you upgrade your delivery to a guaranteed, tracked service, as we cannot be held responsible for items that are delayed by Royal Mail after we have despatched them on time. This will put your item out from our studios on a next-day guaranteed, pre-1pm signed-for service with Royal Mail that is nearly 100% reliable and features a tracking number so that you know where in the postal network your parcel is.

We live on the basic principle of "do to others as you'd like done to you."

Bit old fashioned but we find it's good for business.

If we cancel an order you won't get charged.

If anything goes wrong whilst you are ordering, you won't be charged.

If we misprice anything, we'll charge the lower of the prices... it's a fair cop if it is our mistake.

All prices are in good old English pounds and all items are in stock.

If you do order something that turns out to be out of stock (perhaps 2 people ordered an item at exactly the same time), we will cancel the order and refund you any money taken from your card.

We will always do our best to make sure you get what you ordered when we said we would deliver it. If it doesn't go to plan, we will do our best to sort it out but we can't be held accountable for anything but the cost of the goods.

All personalised orders are considered FINAL at the point you place the order.

Please ensure that you take extra care when entering your personalised information and gift messages into the website as we are unable to offer replacements for personalised items unless they are faulty.

All personalised products are made to order and as such there might be slight variations between one item and another.

Unfortunately we are unable to add or remove items from an order once it has been placed. If you would like to order additional items please place a separate order.

In the unlikely event that you believe your order is faulty please contact us within 30 days of your order being delivered with a description and photos of the issue.
