- PLANT CARE: Broccoli grows best in fertile, well-drained, moisture-retentive soil, in full sun or very light shade. Water broccoli every 10 days in dry weather. Broccoli is ready to harvest when the heads or spears are well formed but in bud, before flowers begin to open.
