Red Octopus Marble Mosaic

This wonderful marine mosaic would make a unique embellishment to your home - for ancient Roman-style chic.

It is the third mosaic made by artist Julia Brooks using the direct method of stone laying.

Each marble tile is hand cut using a hammer and hardie from Ravenna, Italy.

Adhere this stunning marble mosaic in the usual tiling way as a very unique sink splashback, front or backdoor step, paving slab or wall decoration. Outdoors you could fix it to a pond, fountain, pool or shower. Indoors your could site it above your bathroom, toilet, studio, kitchen or office sink.

Mosaics take a long time to make and are like paintings in stone that last a lifetime and more. Every mosaic is unique and will add value and ancient charm to your home.

Each tile is hand cut for a handmade look, then placed by hand or sometimes tweezers, into the design. Some tiles are shaped with stone cutters. Each tile is glued using high strength water soluable PVA glue to a flexible fibreglass mesh - the same mesh used for pool / small tiles.

The octopus design is hand drawn, with fluid tentacles that are designed to use the space and look visually interesting, kooky, spooky and fun.

The marble tiles in the octopus are various colours and tones - red, brown, yellow, cream, pink and pale green to mimic the colour-changing qualities of octopus skin. The background tiles are beige, cream, white and green to look like sea and sand.

Instructions: the octopus mosaic can be adhered by a tradesman or yourself in the normal tiling manner - it requires fixing to a surface, then grouting with mid-grey or mid-brown grout. (White or dark grout is not ok for mosaics as it dominates the stone pattern with the gap pattern). Buff the marble tesserae occasionally with beeswax or stone polish to enliven the natural stone colours.
