One for sorrow, two for joy... always feel lucky with this pair of magpies and thier golden treasure, inspired by the TV show 'detectorists'
One for sorrow, two for joy..
This is a reversible print I made for my husband that loves the T.V show ‘The Detectorists’ featuring two lucky magpies and their hoard of gold coins. Magpies actually nest in large domed nests, but in the show they keep their gold in a more traditional birds nest and so that is what I've pictured.
The print is made from two relief (block printing) plates and a hand watercoloured screenprint of the magpies finally finished off with gold effect leaf to make the gold coins really sparkle. It doesn’t matter which way up you choose to display it.
Made from:
I used a range of oil based block printing inks and water based eco friendly acrylic inks in black which I coloured in with watercolour in purple, blue, green and black for a dramatic tonal artprint. I then applied gold leaf coins. Each print is therefore completely unique and may not be exactly as pictured (but pretty similar) All materials are archival to last as an heirloom into the future.
