Summer Dance is a semi-abstract, art-nouveau style oil painting of a summer meadow with swallows dancing over it and forming patterns in the landscape. It is 24x18x1.5 inches. The painting was made after much walking around in meadows in Sussex during June and July watching swallows swooping and diving for the insects that gather over the wild flowers and trees. Swallows move so fast they are hard to keep track of and they tend leave patterns on the eyes (mine anyway) which adds to the feeling of energy that I tried to capture in this painting.
