Spend the day on the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway enjoying a unique footplate experience, with lunch.
Experience a day of hands-on railway operation with the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway. Their friendly drivers will teach you the ropes in the morning before you take your turn to drive the 1950s heritage Diesel Railcar on an 18 mile round trip journey from Wirksworth to Duffield.
Enjoy the stunning countryside views from the passenger saloon as you take the driver's seat. In the afternoon, switch gears and try your hand at driving a main line heritage diesel locomotive on the same scenic route. A Guard's brake van will be attached for guests to ride behind the locomotive, allowing for a unique and memorable experience. Stand on the veranda to feel the wind in your hair during summer, or cosy up next to the wood-burning stove in the winter months.
Lunch will be provided in the Pullman Buffet at Wirksworth Station for you and your guest on the day, although the driving experience is for one person only.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW.
The minimum age for this experience is 18 years old and you must be able to climb in and out of the locomotive from ground level.
This unique experience has limited availability but is available for advanced booking, throughout the year and lasts around 6 hours. This experience is for one person with lunch being included for two people. There will be other people on the trains on the day and you will take it in turns to drive.
