Thieves Oil Balm is based on an old medieval recipe. Try our modern version that comes in lovely eco-friendly cardboard jars.
Thieves Oil is an essential oil blend based on a recipe thought be from the 15th century. When the bubonic plague was sweeping through Europe, people noticed that four notorious thieves, who were also spice merchants, miraculously never contracted the highly infectious plague. When they were arrested the thieves offered to give the judge the recipe of their secret blend of herbs and oils in return for their freedom.
Over the centuries the recipe has evolved, but most versions still include Rosemary, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus and Lemon. As you can imagine, the aroma is wonderful. Some say it smells of Christmas whilst others compare it to the smell of Coca Cola!
The list of uses for Thieves Oil is endless. Some find it useful for insect stings or as a bug repellent. It can be used as a decongestant or you can put on temples to relieve a headache and colds. Its said to help tired feet and toe nail fungus and also atheletes foot. It soothes burns, scrapes and bruises. The list goes on to include helping boils, pimples, warts, acne and wrinkles!
