There are two sizes of this plate: Small is 10 inches or 26cm. Large is 11.5 inches or 29cm.No large ones are available before Christmas though.
Two glaze effects available - 'Shino' white or 'Red Flash' ware. The sinuous lines are achieved in different ways on the two glazes. On the Shino, the piece is dipped in the glaze and, very quickly, before the glaze dries, I run my fingers through the glaze and the clay body is exposed. On the blue version, I pour the red glaze over the Chun blue glaze, in a lazy, wavy line. Do remember, each is done on the spur of the moment, so each piece will be different, but the spirit is the same.
This piece is hand thrown from lovely toasted stoneware clay, imported from France by my friend and wonderful potter, Micki Schloessingk. The glazes are made up from basic materials in my workshop. The blue 'Chun' glaze and the red are my own recipes, developed by doing lots of testing work in the studio. It is like creating your own recipe in the kitchen, can take months of research!
