The Cosmo’s cranberry, cointreau and citron vodka base is sure to bring some Christmas cheer to your evening and with the addition of a tart rhubarb essence - this drink is definitely lives up to it’s reputation as “a party in a glass”.You may know the drink as Carrie Bradshaw’s favourite but the cocktail was popularised years before it hit TV screens, at the Odeon Restaurant which Vanity Fare described as “a clubhouse where the young men and women who would determine the direction of the culture—high and low—for at least the next 10 years came to network, flirt, and occasionally fight”.The Odeon’s famous patrons included Warhol, John Belushi and Robert DeNiro but the real enduring star of the show was the elegant Cosmopolitan cocktail…
The Toreador predates it’s more famous cousin, the Margarita by over 15 years and despite it’s wonderful apricot overtones the drink hasn’t spent quite as much time in the limelight.Peculiarly, British bartenders took towriting recipes with Tequila en-masse well before their American counterparts, despite not really knowing what the spirit really was.Tequila was slightly incorrectly described in the 1937 Cafe Royal Cocktail Book as a “a pale yellow spirit distilled from the Mexican cactus… It is used with success in cocktails.”They may have incorrectly called the Agave plant a cactus, which it is not, but they definitely were correct in saying “it is used with success in cocktails” and rarely more notably than in the Toreador you hold in your hand!
'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the housenot a creature was stirring, not even a mouse…Our Kocktail Curator Neil Donachie has really pushed the sleigh out to bring you a delightfully effervescent Christmas cracker of a drink. With it’s notes of wintery sloe berries and of course the eponymous gingerbread, this is a drink that is fit for old St Nick himself.Top with ginger ale or if you’re feeling particularly festive, you could even plump for a splash of champagne!Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night!
The Cinnamon Knees is our merry take on the classic Bees Knees cocktail. The original drink features the soothing marriage of honey and lemon over a fragrant gin base. Our addition of just the right amount of cinnamon provides a wonderful yuletide feeling of warmth. The drink is said to have been invented by the wonderfully monikered “Unsinkable Molly Brown”, an American millionaires socialite who was partying in Paris during the 1920s.Mrs Brown gained her nickname due to surviving the sinking of the Titanic. She pressured the crew on the lifeboat she found herself upon to head back to the shipwreck to rescue more passengers and famously threatened to throw the crewmen overboard if they didn’t assist her.
