A beautiful map drawing of Durham Bailey, showing the UNESCO World Heritage Castle and Cathedral, and the Marketplace surrounded by the River Wear.
The picturesque medieval city of Durham is centred on a natural loop of the River Wear, which is known as 'The Bailey' or 'The Peninsula'. Legend has it that the Lindisfarne monks carrying Saint Cuthbert set down the coffin at Dun Holm and were unable to lift it again. Taking this as a sign, they founded Durham.
My birds-eye view was originally drawn by hand in 2013. I used a number of aerial photographs and drew the map on a 45º isometric grid.
This map makes a fabulous gift for anyone who has ever lived in or visited Durham.
