Put this mother and chick up to remind you what total good sorts they are!
All the Long-tailed Tit parties break up in spring when the birds pair off for the breeding season, starting with some hard-out nest building. Nests often take more than 3 weeks to create and no wonder – we’re talking World of Interiors-level nests, involving up to 2,000 feathers plus moss, hair, cobwebs and a camouflage of lichen. Many of these brilliant nests are lost to predators before the chicks hatch but the Long-tailed Tit simply goes off to help another pair feed and rear their chicks.
