All of our vouchers are valid for 18 months from the date of purchase. This should give the lucky recipient plenty of time to get in touch to book a date with us.
Day One is spent learning how to make your own pattern-welded copper & steel billet. You will learn about the ancient art of pattern welding and begin the process of carefully heating the copper to weld in between the high carbon steel. A member of team will carefully work alongside you to achieve the desired pattern. Once the billet has been formed, the exciting reveal of the pattern is made when a rough-cut shape of the knife is made and ground away.
Day Two is when it all gets very exciting and the final stages of making your Cu-Mai Knife come together. Any final detail on the blade is made just before you learn how to heat treat it and polish the blade. It is at this stage when the true unique pattern is revealed.
Breakdown of What is Included:
• Making up a billet (stacked layers of alternating copper and steel to be forge welded together)
• Forge welding using a hydraulic press
• Manipulations (grinding or forging into the bar to manipulate layers)
• Etching to reveal the pattern
During your time with us, you can enjoy lunch either in the country air in our picnic area or, if you prefer, take advantage of our Forge Den or Woodlands Huts. We do welcome family and friends to join you for lunch and to share in your experience as a blacksmith. There is choice of hot drink or cold drinks on site, as well as a choice of a cake or a snack from the tuck shop.We are very lucky to have a partnered up with our local farm shop who supplies us with delicious home cooked Pies, Pastries, and so much more.Our fridge is stocked well with a hearty selection and ready for you to warm up and enjoy. There is a further charge for this. Alternatively, you are more than welcome to bring your own picnic lunch from home. We work with a number of B&B’s, hotels & campsites who we know will look after you during your time with us.
