About the teamaker
This tea is produced at a woman-led and solar powered Tea Studio located high in the Nilgiri Mountains in South India. Dreamed up by Indi Khanna, and now headed by Indi’s daughter Muskan Khanna, the Tea Studio produces stunning and innovative teas and provides well-paying, steady work for the team of all women tea producers.
The Tea Studio supports local farmers with fair prices for their tea leaves, sometimes 10 times what larger producers would pay. All of the Tea Studio’s leaf material is purchased from local family holdings less than an acre in size, and because historically the region has been too poor for farmers to afford chemicals or pesticides, all teas have been growing in naturally organic conditions for decades and will continue to be organically grown in this way. The leaves have been tested and are compliant with EU/US organic regulations.
The Tea Studio aims to set new standards in creativity and innovation in tea production, with founder Indi Khanna receiving the honour of a Lifetime Achievement Award at the UK Tea Academy’s 2022 Leafies. The studio’s Coonoor Back Tea was also highly commended in 2023.
