Product description

Charming Vintage Ball Mason Jars. Ideal gift or a great addition to your vintage collection

Glass jars with this embossed marking probably constitute the most popular jar for home canning ever produced in the United States. We however do not reccomend these for the use of canning.

The next most popular applciation is decorative arrangements such as storage in the Bedroom, Bathroom, Office desk or the Kitchen, we find they've been used to create some very inspiring floral arrangements at weddings and parties.

Made from

The Jars are made from the trademark Ball Corporation blue tint soda - lime glass, The blue glass came as a bi-product, in production, the sand from Lake Michigan turned blue in the glass making process.

If a glass is coloured purple, it means that manganese dioxide was used to make glass look clear and transparent. Exposure to sunlight though caused the glass to turn purple. During World War II, glass makers shifted to selenium as supply for manganese dioxide was limited. The last of these were produced in 1937, they are still produced in clear glass.

However the lids to have a trademark construction that we dont see anymore in these types of jar. The lis is made from Zinc and the inside seal in these lids also made of glass, which is white.
