About me

Bespoke, sustainable silver & gold jewellery handmade by Helly in London.

Sylvah Jewellery was set up by me, Helly, in June 2020 and every piece you see on this page is made solely by me in North London!

I took my first jewellery class in January 2019 and continued these evening classes until March 2020. In that class, I had learnt how to make gemstone set silver rings and was halfway through making an Emerald ring for my cousin's 18th birthday.

My Grandpa used to do some silversmithing, making silver boxes and bowls, so I got some of his tools, silver and the workbench he built. I bought a few other basic tools so I could finish my cousin's ring and make a few other people some jewellery. In the summer I set up Sylvah via Instagram.

I now make jewellery full-time and am currently studying for my Diploma in Fine Jewellery which will vastly advance my stone-setting techniques. It is such a lovely job and, thanks to your orders, I get to do something creative and different every day!

The name Sylvah comes from the word Sylvan meaning trees of the forest, as I have a great love for trees as do the rest of my family. The name is also a tribute to where I lived when I first started making jewellery - Forrest Road in Edinburgh. My new studio space coincidentally happens to be just off a different Forest Road!

Love Helly xx

How a ring is made

An outline of the processes I undertake to create a bespoke gemstone ring.

First, I cut the length of silver needed for the band using my small handsaw, trying to be as precise as possible to reduce waste and the filing time later. I then take my stamps and engrave the requested inscription on the band.

Next, I clean up the edges, making them as straight as possible, and bend the two ends to join almost perfectly. I then clean the ring band and prepare it for soldering, a process where two pieces of metal are joined using a combination of heat and a filler metal with a lower melting point than the sterling silver band.

I then place the ring in a pickling solution which removes the oxidisation from the soldering process and cleans the ring. Lastly, I shape the band to a perfect round, check it is the correct size and file down the solder join with hand files and various grades of sandpaper until the join is no longer visible.

To set the garnet I create a sterling silver cup which will encase the stone and solder it to the band. I then polish and set the stone.

  • "I can only wholeheartedly agree with all of the previous fantastic reviews. Helly recently made me a beautiful personalised ring with an inscription that is very close to my heart. It was a wonderful experience all-round. Helly took time to find out what I was looking for until we got the 'perfect' design. She communicated frequently to let me know how it was progressing, and the ring was finished quickly and came beautifully presented. "

Terms and Conditions

Returns are only accepted when the item has been damaged in transit. All pieces of jewellery ordered from Sylvah will have been made specifically for you as I do not keep pieces in stock making them all unique and bespoke. All personalised items can not be exchanged or returned unless damaged in transit. Non-personalised pieces can be exchanged for another size if available but the purchaser will need to cover postage costs both ways. If the purchaser wants to return a non-personalised item this can be arranged but only for store credit or in exceptional circumstances, they will receive their money back (these circumstances are decided by Sylvah Jewellery).

If a ring needs re-sizing I can do this but the purchaser would need to pay for the postage both ways and an additional fee of £5-50.

As many pieces need to be re-sized or personalised, pieces may take up to three weeks to be dispatched but I will communicate with you how long the making of your piece will take and regularly update you if you wish.

If you order goods from our Site for delivery outside the UK, they may be subject to import duties and taxes which are levied when the delivery reaches the specified destination. You will be responsible for payment of any such import duties and taxes. Please note that I have no control over these charges and cannot predict their amount. Please contact your local customs office for further information before placing your order.
