Learn the basics of letterpress in this workshop, exploring typesetting, layout design, and relief printing. Hosted at Bristol's inspiring Estate of the Arts.
Graphic design is all around us. Layouts and typesetting are part of our everyday life. If you have an interest in print then this is the class for you. It’s run by Theo, who runs a letterpress design studio, and will enthuse you with his love of typography, traditional advertising and craftsmanship.
WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT?
This is a group taster to introduce you to the techniques and processes involved in letterpress, and what can be achieved. You will start with the basics, and that includes a bit of the history, an understanding of relief printing, paper stocks and the inks.
Then the group will get to work on a small project that involves several aspects of typesetting and layout design. Compositions completed and you’re ready for the next phase - a demonstration on how to use a table top platen press, before it’s ‘over to you’ to start having a go at your own printing.
