Create a carnivorous plant terrarium in this fun, hands-on workshop. Learn how to design a mini-ecosystem and care for hungry insect-eaters.
Carnivorous plants form the basis for this rather exotic workshop, as you fill a terrarium with some rather hungry insect eaters.
WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT?
"Come into my terrarium," said the houseplant to the fly. Carnivorous plants make excellent houseplants. Pitcher plants, flytraps, and sundews are hardier than you might imagine, and of course, they attract and absorb any passing insects, providing nutrients that aren’t readily available in the soil.
In this workshop, you will learn how to create the perfect mini-ecosystem and how to care for your new plants in their glass home.
TELL ME MORE?
These terrariums are "open glass" for all the obvious reasons—it’s not much use having a carnivorous plant if the fly can’t gain access. All the tools and materials will be provided, along with tea and coffee to fuel your work. The style of the planting will vary from class to class, depending on which plants are available at the time.
It’s a very modern take on a very old system, and these are truly intriguing plants.
