Explore the historic cyanotype technique in this Manchester workshop. Create beautiful Prussian blue prints using UV light, guided by expert artist Rachel Evans.
One of the oldest alternative photography techniques. It’s simple and versatile. If you're a fan of cyan blue, then this is a workshop worth exploring.
WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT?
Cyanotype is a camera-less technique for reproduction. In this workshop, you will lay objects onto sensitised paper and expose it to UV light, revealing a one-of-a-kind print in a gorgeous Prussian blue. The process was invented in 1842 by Sir John Herschel, and the term ‘blueprint’ comes from his use of cyanotype. He employed the technique not for art, but for diagrams.
It was later used by the botanist Anna Atkins to create three volumes of work on algae, each seaweed painstakingly copied using the process and turned into beautiful prints in the signature colour. Now it’s your turn.
