Discover one of London's largest collections of Japanese Whisky. In this interactive tasting with history and a masterclass. For Two.
WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?
In London, Map Maison hold one of the largest collections of Japanese Whisky. In this interactive session, you not only taste their signature cocktails, but get to make one of your own - mixologist to hand. You will be taken through the history of Japanese Whisky, which is an extraordinary journey. From the selection of the terrain (which apparently has a nod to Scotland) to the creation of the label. Map Maison is the perfect spot to pay respect to the spirit, while becoming just a bit of an expert on the subject, and as with any drink you only get to understand the nuances by tasting, tasting and then - well a bit more tasting.
WHAT'S INCLUDED
- Complimentary Japanese whisky Highball cocktail on arrival
- Small tapas plate (V)
- Tasting of three different Japanese whiskies; Suntory Toki, Nikka Days, Mars Kasei
- A presentation of the history, production and story behind Japanese whisky
- One Japanese whisky based cocktail (made by you).
Think Japan and you automatically think about presentation. Every experience is performed with care and precision. The Japanese bar culture is no different - it is ceremonial. Even the ice is judged on the shape and clarity, and the bottle is presented at the bar with reverence. As for the design, just the bottles and labelling are a wonder to behold. The Japanese have been making whisky since 1924 and they specialise in special bottlings and limited editions, the taste is actually nothing like the tradition scotch (as you'll discover in the tastings). It was a soap opera based on the founder of Nikka Whisky called ‘Massan’ that rocketed the sales of whisky to the top of their drinks list.
