Stargazing. How often have you looked up and wished you knew a bit more? This day is devoted to Astronomy. Is there anybody out there?
How often have you looked up at the night sky and wished you knew a bit more? If that’s the case, then this is definitely the workshop for you. It’s run by Mike Culley, a fellow of the Royal Astronomy Society and one of the most experienced planetarium presenters in the UK. He has been developing shows and workshops for over 25 years, so you will be in excellent hands in this introduction to astronomy.
You really can be a total newcomer; no prior knowledge is required or assumed. This is a day that is out of this world. Explore the Moon and the planets of our Solar System and the ways you can successfully see them at night from your own back garden. Learn about supernovae and black holes, how they form, and how they live their lives. Look at distant constellations and where and when they can be found in the night sky, and hear about distant galaxies in the city of stars.
50th birthday gifts for her that turn moments into lifelong stories.
TELL ME MORE
Mike will also talk telescopes. There will be a practical session with tips and ideas about how to start observing yourself and what type of equipment you should choose. It's an important topic, and you don’t want to get it wrong.
Examine real meteorites, including rare and unusual specimens, and find out how they can give us vital clues to the origins and evolution of our own Solar System.
If you weren’t an enthusiast when you started the day, you will be by the end. In fact, we promise you won’t be looking up at the sky in the same way ever again.
