A gift for gardeners. Visit the expansive 154-acre garden project at RHS Bridgewater, Manchester. From topiary and kitchen gardens to exotic plants and creative displays.
WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?
This is a gift for absolutely anyone who loves gardens, gardening, and nature. The transformation of 154 acres, reviving the gardens of the Worsley New Hall estate, is one of the largest gardening projects in Europe. Whether you are a lover of woodlands, wellbeing gardens, or Mediterranean planting, there is something at every turn to look at and admire.
Garden visiting is one of the best ways to pick up new ideas and techniques or just to remind yourself what fun gardening can be. Walk along the paths of the Chinese Streamside Garden, revel in the Paradise Garden glasshouses, and take inspiration from the gravel gardens. Take loads of photos, or you won’t remember the plants you simply have to make room for when you’re back home. You'll also find an extensive range of plants in their Garden Centre—it’s good to grow a memory.
There are rills and a lily pond and Asiatic and Mediterranean planting. In the Kitchen Garden, there are staples like runner beans and peas, but grown in rather more creative ways than the average allotment. The Kitchen Garden produce makes its way over to the Bridgewater Cafe, so that’s not to be missed either. It overlooks the Victoria Meadow and serves a proper lunch, but you won’t go hungry—there’s also the Stables Cafe and the Garden Cottage Shepherd's Hut.
There’s something to engage with at every twist of a path. Of course, one visit is not enough, but it’s a day out that will make anyone with green fingers very happy, even if you don’t garden you can expect to be equally enchanted.
