Craft a botanical masterpiece by learning the traditional art of copper foiling. Relax, meet new people and create a unique piece to take home.
Ffion Morgan, a Welsh miniature model maker, creates house replicas and preserves bridal bouquets as art. In this workshop, she'll teach you to make your own botanical masterpiece using dried flowers and copper foiling, so you can preserve your own memories.
WHAT’S THIS ALL ABOUT?
Reconnect with nature and immerse yourself in the traditional art of copper foiling. Ffion will provide you with hand-pressed wildflowers and a mocktail as you begin to learn a new skill. The workshop takes place in Mivart Studios, Bristol, a hub for creative businesses, artists, and makers.
You will be creating a glass picture, filled with dried flowers and edged in copper. Copper foiling, developed by Tiffany Studios in 1890, is ideal for decoration, as it glints in the light. This process edges the glass pieces to form your frame, wrapping the sides in burnished copper foil before learning to solder the joins. The end result is a decorative piece of art, which you will, of course, take home.
TELL ME MORE
This workshop is beginner-friendly— well, we’d be surprised if you’ve done this before. It’s the perfect way to relax, meet new people, and spend a few hours learning a new craft skill. It’s the ideal antidote to a frantic life and highly absorbing, as you carefully decide on the type and placement of the wildflowers. The frames are small but utterly enchanting, with the added bonus that you made it yourself.
