About me

Stay bold, stay gold

Hi I’m Amber and I run The Slaughterhouse Press, an art studio in the heart of Southsea.

In my store you will find a collection of hand carved lino prints and reverse glass paintings gilded with real gold.

Each piece is handmade using the finest quality of materials from handmade papers to 23 carat gold leaf and abalone shell. They make the perfect gift for someone you love or to display in your own home.

I use water based inks and plastic free packing where possible for my prints to be as environmentally friendly as I can be.

Glass paintings can be customised to make unique letters and dates personal to you. You will have a choice of type of gold, paint colours and abalone shell and glitter options.

Please note all pieces are hand made to order so allow up to 4 weeks for shipping.

How it’s made

Handcrafted with love

Each print is created by carving a design into a block of lino or wood, rolling ink onto the surface and laying paper or fabric on top then applying pressure using a print press or hand burnishing to produce a print. I like to use a variety of papers for my prints including handmade lokta paper, Japanese awagami papers and white Kent paper.

My reverse glass paintings are created by using a technique called water gilding, laying sheets of real gold leaf on the glass then painting over with a design in enamel paints. Designs can be finished off with abalone shell and glitter inlays.
