About us

How it started & landing a big boy job

I first touched clay at college during my art foundation where my pottery teacher said the encouraging words of "you will never never be a ceramicist". To be honest, at that time I agreed with her. Fast forward to my degree at Loughborough, studying 3D Design and I ended up falling in love with it and specialising in ceramics for my final year.

Leaving University I ended up landing the most incredible job, on the design team for the world renowned Denby Pottery. I was a glaze specialist, and it was my job to create all the beautiful glazes for the pottery collections. Most of the collections I created can still be bought with them today. This job really opened my eyes up further to the world of pottery, the dedication and skill it takes. I learnt a lot from my time there, especially off all of the staff on the factory floors who taught me to spray & drip pottery to a professional standard.

How things CHANGED

Lost my speech and started my dream life

I ended up moving into to a corporate job, which was not the best move. Sadly I temporarily lost my speech from stress a few years later and it made me evaluate my life and what was missing. The answer was simple, it was pottery.

We (myself & the help from my incredibly supportive husband) set up The Wirksworth Pottery Company during lock down and haven't looked back. Being able to spend my days creating and making truly is what makes me happy and I am eternally grateful for being able to do this as my full time job.

Since setting up, the pottery has grown slightly and there's now a small army making it tick. Being able to share my skills of pottery has also been wonderful. Thank you to everyone who purchases from us and allows us to keep our business going and give us the opportunity to keep making.

If you have any questions, even in a technical area, please reach out to us and if we can help, we always will.

Lots of love,

Han. xxx
