About Me

Fun, practical and sustainable fashion for babies and children

Zac and Bella, a children's fashion brand, began in 2016 as an online business by me - London College of Fashion graduate - Hayley McGhan.

Whilst on maternity leave with my second child, I began sewing from the kitchen table whenever I could fit it in. Slowly I began to realise I could sell my designs and my ambition then became to not have to return to my corporate career when mat leave ended.

Six years on I'm proud to say the brand has flourished. I now illustrate every fabric used as well as still making all clothing myself albeit now from a lovely workshop rather than the kitchen table!

"Slow fashion" and responsibility for the environment is at the heart of the brand as well as providing fun, machine washable and on-trend clothing. My aim is that you will be able to pass down my clothing to your family and friends time and time again to be loved by many, hopefully as much as I loved making them.

How I make it..

From drawing to sewing machine to hanger

Once I have completed the fabric design - which usually begins as a sketch on my ipad - it is then digitally printed onto a fabric made from soft and breathable 92% cotton and 8% Lycra. I'm excited to say that for every metre of fabric ordered from my printers 1 m2 of forest is planted. All my fabrics carry the OEKO-Tex certificate.

Digital Printing Process

My printers use a sustainable print technology with positive ecological balance and 95% higher production efficiency than traditional printing methods. This means minimised consumption of water, energy and chemical substances.

Reduced Carbon Footprint

All my fabrics and supplies are sourced from within Europe and every single item of clothing and accessory is made in South Wales, UK. We have aimed to have transparency as well as minimal supply chain in order to reduce our carbon footprint.

Minimal Waste

Fabric is printed in small amounts to reduce any unwanted holding of stock. Every usable scrap of fabric is kept and repurposed.
