Arsenal fans will find two very different commentary charts chronicling two uniquely different achievements in the club’s modern history. The League Championship of 1989 was won by the narrowest of margins in a photo finish, the Premier League title of 2004 was won at a canter without a single blemish. One was about a whole season, the other about a single night.
1989 INCREDIBLES
It was incredible for a 9-month long title race to be undecided going into the final game of the season between the two main protagonists. It was inconceivable that the game would be settled in the final minute. Arsenal edged ahead of Liverpool with Michael Thomas’s late, late show and made Anfield in 1989 the most wondrous night in the lifestory of an historic football club.
This hand-written commentary chart details all the characters that figured in the final chapter of a season’s story that had taken in Hillsborough and so much more. Clive was a Merseyside local radio commentator at the time hoping to call a Liverpool league and cup double but Thomas took the title away when it came ‘up for grabs’.
2004 INVINCIBLES
The scale of Arsenal’s Premier League title success of 2004 is simply unbeatable in the modern English game. Arsene Wenger’s team finished 11 points ahead of their closest pursuers at the end of a 38-game campaign in which they didn’t lose a single match.
This detailed and immaculate grid of results, appearances and scorers contains all the numbers that added up to a unique historic achievement over the course of those 38 matches. All 30 of Thierry Henry’s goals are recorded, all 15 of the defence’s shut-outs, all diligently-compiled and impeccably-presented.
Choose to have your chart personalised! Clive Tyldesley will sign the back of the chart to a named person of your choice.
