What is a cyanotype? A cyanotype is a cameraless photographic printing process. Cyanotypes produce a cyan-blue print. Originally discovered by Sir John Herschel in 1841 and made famous by Kent based scientist Anna Atkins in her book titled ‘Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions’ in 1843.
Do the chemicals expire? The powder chemicals should last a few months if kept in a cool, dark and dry place. Once the powder chemicals are mixed with water to create a solution, the solution can be stored in a dark place for 2-6 months if kept in a cool, dark and dry place.
How is this photography? Cyanotype is a camera-less photographic process which predates cameras. The paper is light sensitive, when objects are laid on the paper and exposed to Ultro-violet light, the paper will change colour. The steps are simple, the kit included instructions to guide you.
