A proper traditional wicker hamper, packed with treats to share as you float down the river.
WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?
Well, for a start, it’s very quiet. This small, elegant river boat is electric and designed not to rattle you or the wildlife as you take the river route that Lewis Carroll and Alice Liddell frequented when he wrote ‘Alice in Wonderland’.
Travel past quaint Osney Island, with its allotments and gardens, ancient Port Meadow and Godstow, taking in stunning views of Christ Church meadows, the university boathouses, and the regatta course. This is Oxford at its picturesque best, seen from the river, which puts a completely different focus on its famous landmarks. It’s leisurely, intimate (no more than 12 passengers per cruise), and includes a short stop-off at a historic riverside pub.
TELL ME MORE
Well, there’s the picnic lunch, which of course always tastes miles nicer when it comes in a wicker hamper for you to unpack. The treats typically include finger sandwiches, tart of the day, homemade scones with cream and jam, washed down with elderflower presse. If you want other drinks, you can buy these on departure. Of course, there will be napkins, proper china, and glasses. This is a traditional picnic, and you wouldn’t settle for less. If it rains, there is an awning to keep you dry and tables for the picnic. Expect tales of the riverbank from the captain (not too many, just enough), as you settle back and watch the ducks dabbling - ‘up tails all’.
