Handmade ceramics, inspired by home baking and vintage recipes
Designed to add a touch of beauty and creativity to the kitchen and home, Alice creates all of her products from her studio in Warwickshire. Each piece is made on the potter’s wheel by Alice, hand thrown using white stoneware clay and decorated using poured and splattered coloured slips (liquid clay).
The colours she uses imitate the marks made from ingredients that are often produced when baking or cooking at home, like when a cake mixture is being poured from a bowl, or milk from a jug.
Every piece also features at least a word, a snippet of, or full handwritten recipe. Alice’s original range of products contain extracts of recipes from her own late grandmother’s collection. Her handwriting features long, flowing down strokes and sloping letters, reminiscent of a lot of writing from the 19th and 20th century.
Personalised recipes can be put onto some of the pieces Alice makes, which allows a completely personal and unique product to be created, and immortalises a treasured family recipe into something to be held and displayed, rather than tucked away in a folder or book for fear of it being lost or torn.
Personalised to remember
By using a replica of an original recipe or piece of writing, it means the handwriting stays exactly the same. As handwriting is so unique to an individual, it can act as a really beautiful keepsake when permanently fixed to a ceramic piece. It can be used as a way of remembering a favourite recipe, or a way of commemorating a loved one, especially as many people have fond memories of baking with their mother or father, or grandmother and grandfather.
