Handmade & hand embroidered cushions made by women artisans in Tajikistan using the traditional 'Suzani' technique.
Azara Lifestyle was conceived by Annabel, a homewares enthusiast.
During a visit to Tajikistan in Central Asia, Annabel fell in love with the beautiful & unique cushions that rural women were hand crafting and embroidering using techniques handed down through generations of women.
Annabel has been privileged to have built a business with these incredibly skilled women making her vision of bringing these hand crafted cushions back to the UK a reality.
By using authentic design elements and combining them with modern colours, Azara Lifestyle supports women in business in Tajikistan, and the preservation of classical Tajik and Central Asian handicraft and production skills.
Our products are made using a technique called Suzani
Our cushions and homeware products are handmade and hand embroidered using a craft technique called 'Suzani'. Suzani means ‘needle’ and is a traditional Persian and Central Asian skill passed down through generations.
Creating the Suzani design for each cushion is a complex & painstaking process which can only be done by hand embroidering. Each design is unique and is subject to strict traditional rules. Suzani styles are distinctive so that an expert can immediately say where in Tajikistan an embroidered panel was made.
