Die Monde | Storefront | notonthehighstreet.com

DIE-MONDE is the art work of self taught illustrator Sarah March. The Die-monde designs utilise the medium of Dotwork, the practice of creating an image through the accumulation of small dots, where shading is created through the density and size of the dots. The DIE-MONDE designs are created using fine liner ink pens that have round, varying sized nibs, the smallest of which allows for intricate and precise detail.

DIE-MONDE designs are heavily influenced by Sarah’s work in the tattoo industry during its recent revival in popular culture. This is evident in her Dark Side series, where the use of skulls and Native American folk law symbolism create dark yet thought provoking imagery.

Other influences come from Sarah’s travels across India, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand, where she developed a great interest in the countries’ rich cultures, arts and religions. Aspects of Hindu and Buddhist symbolism feature in Sarah’s complex Mandala designs, where the unusual subjects are arranged into circular formations depicting their natural universe.

A Cornish artist from the fishing village of Port Isaac, Sarah’s Flora and Fauna series is inspired by her upbringing and studio location on the North Cornish coast, where birds, flowers and sea life are abundant.

Throughout Sarah’s work there is a vintage feel, with the black and white detailed imagery lending itself to comparisons with late 19th century/early 20th century reference book drawings and etchings.
