We offer an eco-friendly alternative to the traditional Christmas tree for those who want to help protect the planet during the festive season.
Eco Christmas Tree was created when one woman asked the question: which type of Christmas tree is best for the environment, a real one or a fake one? And the answer, after quite a lot of late night research on the world wide web, came back: neither!
Fake plastic trees are generally shipped from the other side of the globe, which is bad in carbon footprint terms. Plus they don’t last forever or biodegrade, so they inevitably end up in landfill at some point. And they are mostly pretty ugly.
Real trees, whilst at least natural and pretty, are usually exposed to pesticides and grown as part of a monoculture (the same crop planted on a large area), neither of which are good news for the soil or wider ecosystem. There are also varying levels of eco-friendliness with real trees depending on where you source them and what you do with them come January. And nobody likes standing on pine needles!
Hence a journey began which led to Eco Christmas Tree - an environmentally conscious alternative Christmas tree made from hazel coppice - a wood which is cut down as part of traditional woodland management practices. No trees were harmed in the making of your Christmas tree!
