Jana Reinhardt Jewellery started life back in 2006, when I decided it was time to set up my own brand. I’d been working for other jewellers as a goldsmith, but I really wanted to free my creativity and imagination and make pieces that reflected what I love and am inspired by. My jewellery is influenced by the natural world and the animal kingdom.
After a couple of years going it alone, my husband Ross, who also just so happens to be an expert goldsmith, joined me. Together, we have over 40 years of experience in jewellery making. Interesting fact - we both have actual qualifications in jewellery and silversmithing. I’m from Germany and after my goldsmithing apprenticeship I went on to study at the Zeichenakademie, in Hanau, graduating as a master jeweller and designer in 2003. Ross has a BA honours degree in Jewellery and Silversmithing from Guildhall University.
So we both have invested huge amounts of time and effort in training and gaining experience, so you can be certain any piece you buy from us has been handcrafted by an expert. We have the skills to create beautiful, unique and exceptionally well-made jewellery – the kind that becomes a precious keepsake, handed down the generations for years to come.
Every piece of our jewellery is handmade to order, by either Ross or I, at our studio by the sea in West Sussex. We’re a small team, just me, Ross and our pet Beagle - he’s not very good at jewellery making, but he’s great company. We’re really passionate about a little process we call ‘micromanufacturing’.
You might also be interested to know that all precious metals used by Jana Reinhardt are from accredited suppliers, based in the UK, that continually buy back and recycle scrap metal. So our pieces also have sustainability on their side.
We offer free gift wrapping for every order, so each item comes snugly tucked inside one of our pretty boxes, wrapped up in some of our beautiful gift paper. It features one of our little bird designs, hand drawn by yours truly. We always add in a handwritten note to thank you for your purchase too.
Handmade by master goldsmiths in Sussex
We’re in the driving seat for every step of the journey. I design all our products. The process starts with some research and then I make detailed sketches of the piece I’m going to create. I then carve the design in wax, a very painstaking process that requires a lot of time and concentration – I really enjoy this bit. Once that’s finished, the wax carving is cast into metal and turned into a master, which we use to cast all our orders from.
Ross specialises in gem stone setting, engraving and gold plating, so he’s the one adding in all those special touches and extra options. We like to offer these personalised choices for most of our pieces, to make them that little bit more unique and one-of-a-kind for each customer.
Finally, everything is hand polished, so that it reaches you in absolutely pristine, super shiny condition. It can be a bit time consuming and you wouldn’t believe the mess it makes, but we think it’s extremely important to give every item that brand new finish.
