We are a teeny tiny business trying to make BIG changes when it comes to diversity and inclusion in children's literature.
We strongly believe that changes needs to be made in the publishing industry to produce and positively promote literature that reflects and honours the lives of all young people.
In 2017 our eldest son Walter (aged 4 at the time) was diagnosed with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). As parents, we found it difficult to find diverse books where children like Walter could find themselves in the pages of books. They say 'create the things you wished existed', so I started to write a series of picture books called 'Just Like Me' - where at the heart of each story we explore and promote Diversity, Inclusiveness, Acceptance and Kindness.
Having three bi-racial children (one with additional needs) has completely opened my eyes to the fact there is still so much work to be done when it comes to championing inclusion and diversity. In exposing children to other people's stories and the motivations behind those narratives, children begin to connect with others on an emotional level, which is the foundation for bridging differences between worlds.
Books have the power to foster empathy and understanding of other people and cultures; their hopes and dreams and their joys and sorrows. Books open those doors for children to other places and experiences. Books can change lives and Representation Matters! So whether you have bought our book, followed us on social media or supported us throughout this journey Thank You So Much.
