I personally hand print all of my limited edition prints down on the Sussex coast. I also paint bird commissions on pieces of reclaimed wood.
Welcome to the world of Liz Toole, birds, trees and flowers galore!
Here you can find beautiful handmade prints that are designed and printed by Liz Toole down on the South coast in Brighton and Newhaven.
In her recent work Liz has been creating scenes filled with the patterns of nature inspired by both the Sussex countryside, the Scottish coastline and the diversity of life she found whilst travelling in Africa. Liz is a bit of a bird fan and is interested in looking at details of trees and plants, Indian textiles and bird encyclopaedias, and merging these sources to create patterns that celebrate the English decorative tradition.
Liz Toole's latest prints have been handmade in small limited editions, using the techniques of lino-cutting and screen-printing. Liz uses specialized printmaking papers in her work, some of which are made at St Cuthberts Mill in Somerset. The paper she uses is actually called Somerset!
Liz also uses coloured French, Japanese and Indian handmade papers.
I've become quite obsessed with finding the perfect colour combinations ....
I'm very proud of the fact that all of the colours i use are individually hand mixed by me. None of my colours are ever used straight from the tube, even black has other colours mixed with it. I have a very basic selection of colours and literally spend hours, mixing, testing how they work alongside each other to get the perfect combinations. I can easily print 40 different colour combinations for a 2 colour print. I'd definitely say its become quite obsessive, but i constantly get compliments on my colour combinations so all the hard work is paying off!
