Both the front and back covers feature the child's name. On the first page, before the journey begins, you have the chance to write your names to appear after the preset dedication "Have a wonderful Christmas. Lots of love from".
The book starts with the words: "Did you know that every child has their very own elf? The elves have an important job, they help Father Christmas decide which list each child will be on... The good List? Or The Naughty List?" Then the personalised story begins.
The child is introduced to their elf, and told that he has secretly been with them 'undercover' all year long. The elf loves joining in with all of the child's favourite things. He plays with their favourite toys, learns with them at their school or nursery, eats cake on their birthday, goes on trips with them, laughs at their jokes with their friends, watches their favourite show/film, lives at their home with them and most of all he loves being a secret part of the child's family."
After his year of research the elf returns to the North Pole where Father Christmas decides which list the child is on.
