Each block is made of hard beech wood with a minimal design, using 100% FSC certified material from sustainable managed European forest source. Blocks have rounded edges, sanded perfectly smooth.
I created this little cube of critically endangered animals because I feel strongly about environmental issues they are exposed to and would like to raise awareness of the danger many spices are facing with because human activities and how it affects not only their lives but will have a massive impact on the lives of our children and their children if we do not act now.
This is a totally passive toy / tool and requires an adult or educator to help young children to identify the animals first and later as a child's understanding develops help name the related human activities (deforestation, exploitation, overconsumption, commercial fishing, by-catch, climate change, plastic pollution etc) that influence the extinction and endangerment of wild spices. This little cube is more than a collection of cute animals. It is to draw attention while encouraging children (and adults too) to raise questions, concerns and think critically.
I wanted a one piece object that is easy to carry around, fits in a bag or even into a pocket, can be used as part of any open ended play challenging imagination.Learning about our environment and how our actions affect animal’s lives allows us as humans to change our ways of life in order to protect and save biodiversity and more over to understand we must do these things not only to save the Planet but to save ourselves.
Designed and crafted in the UK with lots of care and love.
