We are Hilary and Hannah, a mother and daughter team based in Somerset. Together we run our creative business RAPPU, making eco-friendly furoshiki and other fabric gift wrap products.

Our story begins back in 2018, when we looked around at a sea of discarded Christmas wrapping paper and realised that much of it couldn’t even be recycled. Through researching statistics, we discovered that more than 225,000 miles of single use wrapping paper is thrown away each year - giving us the push we needed to do something about it.

And so, RAPPU was born.

Our business is largely inspired by the Japanese art of furoshiki - to which we owe a huge debt of gratitude. Japanese furoshiki wrapping cloths are used to wrap and carry a range of items, including gifts. We discovered that the simpler furoshiki wrapping techniques are quick and easy to do, and that furoshiki work brilliantly for awkwardly shaped gifts. The furoshiki wrapped gift also looks fabulous - and most important of all, furoshiki wrapping is super eco-friendly.
