We know there are lots of novelty socks out there and we are... not one of them.

Art is food for the soul, as they say, and what better way to get in touch with art than through the soles of our feet? Our sock art has been inspired by the work of UK based artists and we believe that the key to brightening up people's days are by brightening up their feet.

The Artists’ Socks was started in 2016 by Simon, who has always been a fan of bright and bold socks, but became bored with the repetitive hoops and polka dots on offer. Instead Simon wanted to create artistic scenes on socks. Working in collaboration with UK artists The Artists’ Socks was born with a range of socks that covers Geometry, Seascapes to floral designs.

The focus is to link the socks back to the original artworks, with the artists’ involved being responsible for titling the socks based on their artworks.

The manufacturing of the socks is also important to Simon, with quality and working relationships coming before cost. Uninterested in the socks bearing a ‘Made in China’ tag, and with U.K manufacturing, unfortunately, too difficult, unhelpful and expensive to put in place, Simon found a sock manufacture in Riga, Latvia, who have been instrumental in guiding Simon through the sock designing and manufacturing process…. For a while Simon knew more about ‘Needle Count’ than he ever thought he would!

For the first two years Simon could be found every Sunday at Spitalfields Market running The Artists’ Socks as a market stall there, each week becoming a more blooded market stall trader, joining in the weekly battles of the best stall pitches.

Simon loved his days at Spitalfields Market, the interaction with customers, managing language barriers and receiving such positive feedback was a motivation to push the business forward. While he has many fond memories, the time came to move the business online. However, Simon still attends local markets throughout the year.

The Artists’ Socks are designed to be wearable art, using the sock as a canvas and to have some fun. To get away from the mundane and everyday socks on the market.
