Dusky Pink Colour Block Basket

Use your colour block storage basket as a sweet little planter for cacti or as a funky desk tidy. Larger baskets in this hand woven collection make excellent storage for everything from toiletries and blankets to kitchenware, bread and fruit.

These fair trade storage baskets are handwoven from indigenous sisal grass by a member of one of four rural women's weaving cooperatives in South Western Kenya. These fibres are hand-picked and then hand-dyed outdoors in vats of boiling water, before the weaving begins.

The weavers behind these wonderful baskets are primarily subsistence farmers, so basket weaving takes place during the dry seasons when crops are more likely to fail and livestock suffer. Basket weaving offers these families the chance to earn an essential second income.
