About The Letter Box Company

Handmade lenticular pictures to mark and to celebrate life’s important events.

The Letter Box Company was established by designer Liberty Wright.

After working for many years for the renowned artist Rob Ryan, Liberty set up her studio in Bath and started making her hand-painted Letter Boxes.

She was inspired by a rare, lenticular picture box (pictured) that hung in her childhood home, which was made to celebrate a Victorian wedding.

As the viewer moves from left to right, a clever optical technique is used, that intrigued our ancestors - and continues to delight people today – in order to reveal the bride’s and the groom’s Christian names flanking the surname which newly unites them. It employs ingenious and exacting card-engineering, hand-lettering and assembly techniques, which it took Liberty more than a year to master, while still calling for every new box she makes to be individually laid out and designed from scratch.

Clients commission Liberty to make Letter Boxes to mark and to celebrate life’s important events, in a way that will fascinate for generations to come.
