About us

Making children's learning resources built to last a life time.

Hello and welcome to The Little Coach House!

We are a family run business based in East Yorkshire made up of myself, Jane, my husband Alan and our three sons (chief product testers and workshop helpers!) Reuben, Rory and Alfie. We use to have a wonderful nursery in Durham, but are now in a different part of the country and wanted to carry on making a difference in the Early Years.

The Little Coach House was the brain child of teacher Jen and product maker Andy who ran it for the last 5 years before handing over the reins to us to continue the Little Coach House's journey. They created a successful line of children's learning resources which were designed based on Jenny's background knowledge of teaching and the needs of their three children. Jane is also a teacher and Early Years Consultant.

We are a husband and wife team and and Alan makes all the boards and tiles from solid beech in our workshop. These, along with our eco-flashcards can be found in our store.

How its made

"What the hand does the mind remembers" - Maria Montessori

Our learning resource collection focuses on the first learning skills children need for pre-school and primary education. Mainly focusing on writing and recognising their name, letters of the alphabet, numbers and counting. By using our tracing boards it gives children an opportunity to learn this things in a tactile and sensory way. I have always had an interest in the Montessori way of learning and how it encourages independence and learning in a multi-sensory way. With our own children in primary school and pre-school we see at first-hand what children are expected to do in schools and then can focus on designing resources that will support them.

We use solid beech wood to make all our wooden boards which come fully FSC certified from our local timber merchants. We have a strong belief in using sustainable resources and being an eco-friendly business. Where possible we always use recyclable materials for our products and packaging.
