We like to think our art is a bit of fun for the eyes, a slightly wobbly and explosively colourful look at the world.
We're Tom and Jess, a brother and sister design duo running under the moniker of Tomartacus. From our East London studio we create art prints and canvases that bring London views loved by locals to life in an explosion of colour.
Jess takes photographs of our favourite spots in London, Tom sketches them using a Wacom tablet, resulting in our unique brand of hand drawn digital prints. Each picture begins with a collection of abstract colourful shapes, layered on top of one another, then we start honing in on the details.
Our art prints and canvases come in sizes A4-A1 and we can create signed limited edition prints on request, if you're looking for something bespoke. Get in touch!
Our company name Tomartacus was Jess’s nickname for Tom when we were younger.
We mainly create London art because it’s an unendingly interesting city, where inspiration is infinite. The contrast of the modern world up against the city’s big historical stalwarts creates incredible panoramas; the city from Archway Bridge, the silhouette of St Paul’s holding its own alongside newer contenders like The Barbican and The Shard as a few examples.
The Bethnal Green gasworks have been a huge inspiration, the more you observe them, the more colour and life you notice emanating from them. We love how Regent’s Canal is an ever-changing landscape.
Maintaining that local feel has been so important to our art, it is always lovely to see people recognise the areas we capture and hear them share their different, individual memories with us.
