A new life for old unwanted books saved from ragging
I am a bookbinder and I love books. I see so many damaged and discarded old books that have little market value and therefore do not warrant hours of repair. However they are too nice to end up in the paper recycling bin.
Cost effectively rebinding them with ring binders and added blank paper to give them a new lease of life has more appeal to the new owner. I keep the covers, spine where salvagable as a bookmark and some or all inside pages of interest. They are then spiral bound with a chunky silver or bronze wire including at least 40 sheets of good quality (Kaskad Eider Vellum 160 gsm) cream cartridge paper ready for the new owners notes or drawings.
Some have interesting titles/covers and may be particularly relevant for a travel journal or recipe book. Others have a name, vocation, job or hobby in the title, which like the annuals (year of birth relevance) make fabulous specific presents.
Each book is unique. They make fantastic gifts... if you don't end up keeping them for yourself!
