The fabric for the organic Crossweave gift bags has been carefully sourced with both the environment and worker welfare in mind. We choose certified and traceable organic cotton whenever we work with new fabrics because it is one of the most sustainable options available.
The cotton fabric for our organic Crossweave gift bags is supplied by the Organic Textile Company, who have a personal relationship with their supplier in Kerala. Together they ensure that the fabric is fairly traded as well as organic.
The weavers in Kerala hand dye the cotton yarn using low impact dyes, before weaving it on small powerlooms. Crossweave fabric uses different coloured yarns for the warp and the weft, to create an effect that is subtle, complex and high quality. As with any handwoven fabric, there may be small imperfections, but this very much adds to its charm.
We sew the Crossweave gift bags with responsibly sourced organic cotton thread and use Peruvian organic cotton braid for the drawstring. This ensures that the fabric composition of the bags is 100% organic cotton, apart from the cord stop which is metal.
All our packaging is plastic free and the bag tags are made from 100% recycled Kraft card. We send out parcels in 100% recycled card sleeves or boxes and only use eco-friendly paper tape. If a parcel needs padding, we use fabric offcuts or paper from parcels we ourselves have received.
Please note: we pre-wash all crossweave fabrics using eco-friendly cycles and detergent. If you do need to launder a gift bag, you may notice some slight further shrinkage. We recommend handwashing, air drying and ironing on a cotton setting. Avoid machine washing as the metal cord stop may damage the machine drum.

As these products are handmade, there may be a small variation in sizing.
For larger gifts we recommend our reclaimed sari gift bags or furoshiki wraps.
